POINT BREAK Is Ready To Surf Again! Not Sequel, But A Remake!

Posted by Anonymous at 11:11 PM

Tough luck for those (just like I do) hoping for Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 beloved classic POINT BREAK gets a sequel treatment. Instead financing and production company Alcon Entertainment is set to remake the action thriller as a feature movie for release by Warner Bros.

The remake of POINT BREAK is being fast-tracked, with the filmmakers (producers Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove, Michael DeLuca, John Baldecchi, Chris Taylor and Kurt Wimmer) set to take the project out to potential directors soon.

Just like the original version, the remake (which is written by Kurt Wimmer) is set in the world of international extreme sports where an undercover FBI agent is investigating a criminal organization. However, the filmmakers have yet revealed the exact plot points other than its basic synopsis.

Here's what Broderick Johnson and Andrew A. Kosove had to say about the project:

Who doesn't love the Kathryn Bigelow original and its pure heart-pounding action and thrills? Kurt Wimmer's take infuses the story and characters with new twists and settings. We're very excited to be in business with Kurt Wimmer, and Michael DeLuca, Chris Taylor, and John John Baldecchi.

In the meantime, Michael DeLuca also added his statement:

Point Break wasn't just a film, it was a Zen meditation on testosterone fueled action and manhood in the late 20th century and we hope to create the same for the young 21st!

Not only that, Alcon has also secured television and gaming rights to POINT BREAK.

Well, let's hope they get it right.
